With some pre-planning and plenty of notice, the Sandpiper can accommodate as many as 60 people with various degrees of sleeping privacy and in a wide assortment of beds and sofa beds.
That means we can easily accommodate family reunions, hobby group gatherings, small business meetings or events such as weddings, anniversaries and receptions. If you are hosting a very formal reception or meeting of any kind, then we are certainly not the right choice, but when it comes to casual and smaller groups we’d like you to consider us! The feedback we’ve had from our guests has all been good. We have taken many ideas and suggestions from our past guests and event planners and have implemented the best of them.
Our indoor common area room which we lovingly call “The Gathering Spot” measures 18 x 24 and can be configured to seat 30-40 people for a casual sit-down dinner or 40-50 buffet style. It has washroom and the separate room that doubles as our laundry room can be configured as a banquet work or serving area. We also have picnic tables just outside or plenty of room on the property to put up an outdoor celebration tent.
We can provide you with several different options for catering your event and assist you with your arrangements. Or for smaller groups, there is a group coffee pot, microwave and cooking surface available to prepare small meals and snacks.
We love family reunions! Over the years, we have hosted many of them and even have a few families that come back together year after year! Our gathering spot has added a new level of fun for these events. Our families can prepare pot luck dishes in their cottages and suites and then join together to eat, have board game or ping pong tournaments and then retire outside for an evening around the campfire. Our large firepit inspires plenty of story telling, guitars and sing-alongs and we’ve often been invited enjoy the roasted marshmallows to!
The gathering spot is a great place for hobbiests and clubs to come together for meetings and fun! Imagine getting together with friends or collegues, enjoying each other’s company on the famous Red Shores of Prince Edward Island while spending your time at your craft! We can help plan your sessions including anything from jewellery making to quilting or photography to model training. Often we can find an expert right here on PEI to come and join you for an afternoon. A typical weekend might include a meet and greet on arrival day with a dinner at the nearby Stanhope Beach Resort pub, a morning walk on the beach and an afternoon prowl to local artisans studios with an evening seafood cookout on day two. It could also include a morning bike ride or walk on the National Park trail, right around the corner from us and an afternoon session with a local artist/teacher or expert. We can also plan a dinner and evening that includes a trip to Charlottetown and an evening at the Confederation Center.
We’ve hosted the Abegweit Chimes (the only woman’s barbershop chorus on Prince Edward Island) for their last two fall weekend retreats. Their risers easily fit in the common area room and this year they brought in music coaches to work with them and prepare them for the International Competion they attended in New Brunswick last November.
The possibilities for your group events are limitless! We can help you plan your club get-togethers and suggest many different adventures. Tour the island and meet the islanders on your geocaching adventure (we provide the GPS) or visit the Rossignol Estate Winery at Little Sands. Just let us know your preferences and give us a day or two to put together a plan and we’ll help you custom design your group get-a-way!
